Oregon’s economy is the second greenest in the nation, trailing only Alaska in one ranking and Vermont in another.

In Alaska, so-called clean jobs account for 4.7 percent of employment, as opposed to 3.4 percent in second-ranked Oregon. In the private sector, Vermont, with its organic food and farming, has the nation’s highest clean-economy job share, with Oregon coming in second.

These rankings and more stats show up in a Brookings Institution study released Wednesday that finds 2.7 million Americans employed in the “clean economy” – more than the fossil-fuel industry employs.
