Pioneer Place is looking to ditch the usual humdrum food court offerings for more gourmet and locally-made fare.

Instead of the usual sea of chairs ringed with fast-food mainstays, [leasing director Erika] Plummer envisions a smaller version of the Ferry Building in San Francisco or Chelsea Market in New York. Places, she points out, known to attract locals for lunch and dinner, as well as tourists looking for a snack and a feel for the city.

The plan is to strip the food court and rework the entrances, creating a “soul” for the space, Plummer said. The managers discussed a potential rooftop restaurant or garden space as well as places for food carts near mall entrances.
