Future B Homes is restarting a long-stalled urban housing development at Crescent Village in northeast Eugene.

The Springfield home builder has five new houses under way on lots intermixed with the swanky row houses built there on the eve of the recession. And the company is considering whether to buy additional lots at Crescent Village.

In starting construction at Crescent Village, Future B is, to some extent, swimming against the tide in its industry.

Housing projects aren’t nearly as plentiful, grand or expensive as they were. Fewer builders are around to participate. Much of the construction is done on the home builder’s own nickel because banks still aren’t lending much on speculative building.
