Eileen Brady, co-founder of New Seasons Market, formally announced her 2012 bid for Portland mayor.

Brady joins former city Commissioner Charlie Hales as the only two viable candidates to declare — so far — for next May’s primary election, anticipated to be Portland’s most competitive mayoral race in decades. Mayor Sam Adams hasn’t announced plans but is expected to seek re-election, and others — such as Multnomah County Chairman Jeff Cogen and former city Commissioner Jim Francesconi —  are openly considering runs.

The 49-year-old  is perhaps best known for her ties to the chic grocery chain New Seasons, which she and her husband, Brian Rohter,  co-founded with two other families.
