The Oregon Sustainability Center attracted two new high-profile partnerships this week with Umpqua Bank and Sanyo/Inspec.

Sanyo/Inspec, which opened a manufacturing facility in Salem two years ago, will provide the building’s solar power systems while Umpqua Bank will open a branch, which the banks calls a “store,” on the center’s first floor. The building is slated to be built at Southwest Fourth Avenue and Montgomery Street, next to Portland State University’s campus.

Sanyo’s photovoltaic modules it wants to use for the center are among the most efficient panels currently available in the U.S. market, according to a release issued by several center supporters. The center’s solar wafers will be produced locally at Sanyo Solar of Oregon’s Salem manufacturing plant.

Umpqua’s sustainability center store will feature interactive technology and other means of touting green living. The bank already has 26 locations in the Portland area.
