As companies move more of their operations online, the appetite for larger server farms is growing and Bend Broadband wants a piece of that business.
In addition to Facebook — which spent more than $200 million on its Prineville center — Google has a large data center in The Dalles, and Amazon is building one in Boardman. Oregon offers relatively inexpensive electricity, along with tax incentives to lure the big projects. In Facebook’s case, the company also drew on Prineville’s relatively mild climate to minimize the cost of cooling its massive facility.
Bend Broadband is touting another potential virtue: Central Oregon’s geographic stability makes it a good choice for companies looking to back up their data.
