JP Morgan Chase plans to open up to 21 new branches in the Portland-Vancouver area over the next two years.

The expansion will create 252 new jobs.

“It’s a real commitment by the organization to Oregon and the Portland area,” [Oregon and Southwest Washington market manager Ray] Lindley said. “It’s a significant capital investment.”

Chase instantly became a major player in the Northwest in September 2008 when it bought the assets of the collapsed Washington Mutual. Chase currently boasts 76 branches in the Portland-Vancouver market. Its $5.4 million in deposits in Oregon rank it fifth behind Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank, Bank of America and Umpqua.
