Oregon attracts Texas-based wave startup

The CEO and engineers from Dallas-based wave-energy startup Neptune Wave Power traveled to Corvallis to test their new wave buoy.

Aside from the fact that Dallas is miles away from any ocean, other factors attracted CEO Rene Larrave to Oregon.

“It’s very encouraging,” Larrave said. “The state is very committed and forward-thinking.”

The next step will be for the company to build a full-scale wave buoy, which harvests energy using a horizontally swinging pendulum, and deploy it in the ocean. Larrave said he’s exploring the possibility of doing that test in Oregon, too.
