A recent survey shows an increase in sales of Oregon wine, but it is due in part to price reductions and discounts offered to customers and distributors.

The survey was conducted by Northwest Farm Credit Services executive Kurt Wittman.

So while strong sales have had the beneficial effect of clearing out backed-up inventory, they have done little to increase net profits, Wittman said.

“Margins are clearly compressed as wineries have offered discounts,” he said. “But given how gloomy things were at this time last year, at least there is a little sense that the tide has turned.”
