All kinds of Oregon stores are cashing in on the University of Oregon Ducks BCS Championship Game frenzy with merchandise and sales.

Even businesses that don’t normally offer Ducks gear are getting into the spirit with game-day sales and specials.

The Duck Store at Valley River Center leased several thousand square feet of storage space from the mall before Christmas, Valley River marketing manager Diana Bray said, with trucks of merchandise arriving several times a day. “They brought in their own paid security guards and positioned merchandise up to the door,” she said.

Steve Hirons, whose family owns Hirons Drug Stores, said, “I’ve ordered probably 10 times the normal amount that I order this time of year. … It’s been absolutely crazy.”

In addition to the usual variety of Duck goods that Hirons offers, BCS items like T-shirts, sweatshirts, flags, car flags, car magnets, mugs, ticket holders and lanyards were added to the mix.

“We had merchandise brought in as soon as they won their last game,” Hirons said. “We had orders in place, on an ‘if win’ basis.”
