Dan and Sherry Stevens now sell their eggs in over 200 cities.

About six years ago Dan added goose eggs to his line — he previously only used chicken eggs — and the new option has “really taken off.” He used to hire part-time help in the busy season (summer), but with the economic downturn turned instead to developing machines to do the work, blowing the eggs and preparing the decals.

The couple now do everything themselves. Dan takes photographs of a town, draws pictures from the photographs, shrinks his design and prints onto the egg in the process he developed. Sherry then paints on the sky.

“It seems each year I find more ways to make it more efficient,” Dan said, adding, “I have to wear a lot of different hats — I have to be a salesperson, I have to be an artist, I have to be an engineer.”

Not that it’s really a “have to” kind of job. “This encompasses all the things we love,” Sherry said. “Christmas, traveling — it’s the perfect business, really.”
