The cost of Comcast’s standard cable TV plan will raise 5.1%.
“I look at the rate of inflation and I compare it to their rate increase, and I can’t believe they get away with it,” said Fred Christ, policy and regulatory affairs manager for the Metropolitan Area Communications Commission, which regulators cable service in Washington County.
Indeed, the Consumer Price Index actually fell slightly in the Portland area last year. And the annual rate of inflation was just 1.6 percent through the first half of 2010.
Comcast, which serves nearly all of the Portland area and most of Oregon’s other large communities, blames higher programming costs for the TV rate hike.
