Salem will get the city’s first Trader Joe’s sometime in 2011, the company has confirmed.

The Trader Joe’s will occupy part of a building left vacant by Albertson’s.

The announcement follows months of speculative buzz about the popular food and wine store.

Alison Mochizuki, a Trader Joe’s spokeswoman, said the company’s decision to enter the Salem market was based, in part, on finding the right location. Beyond sometime next year, the company hasn’t picked an opening date for the Salem store, she said.

In June, a sign listing Trader Joe’s and other retailers briefly appeared at Keizer Station and caused a ruckus. The sign’s maker said it was a mistake and Trader Joe’s wasn’t opening a Keizer store.
