Karen Mills, administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration, and Rep. Kurt Schrader went on a tour of downtown Lake Oswego small businesses.

The business owners had a chance to explain their business concerns and desire for federal help to Mills and Schrader.

The timing of the Lake Oswego event was important because next week the Senate is set to vote on a $30 billion bill aimed at pushing American small businesses out of recession mode by providing loans and tax breaks.

It is an extremely controversial bill. With elections coming up in November, political parties are more resistant than ever to compromise, and the bill has already failed to get by one Republican filibuster. The same thing could happen with a vote scheduled for next week.
