Despite the recession, business is booming for psychics and healers, as evidenced at Portland’s Spirit Fingers store.

[Customer Jeff Lewis] cited an unstable economy as a possible motive for people searching for direction, even though a session could be pricey. “I think people are looking for comfort and answers that aren’t available through more mundane sources,” Lewis said. “People who frequent healers and psychics want to know what’s going to happen in the future or past lives or whatever.

There may not be hard statistics proving a relationship between a dire economy and an uptick in psychic seekers, but the sheer volume of healers and psychics in the Portland area indicates the popularity. Across the nation, the same trend is being seen. A year ago, in the blackest part of the recession, CBS News reported that psychics were seeing a noticeable upswing, a trend that is apparently repeating again. Or perhaps never faded.
