Nonprofit energy firm Portland Energy Conservation Inc. is finalizing a lease for the top three floors of prominent new Portland office building First & Main. The lease is positive news in a commercial real estate market that has slowed to a crawl.

This summer, PECI secured two stimulus-funded contracts, including a controversial $18.8 million deal to manage the California Energy Commission’s EnergySmart Jobs program. Additionally, PECI secured a stimulus-funded $749,153 educational grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to train commercial building auditors and operators to ensure buildings run as efficiently as possible.

The company had 331 employees in early August. It expected to add more than 200 jobs because of the California contract and reportedly is outgrowing its current offices at 1400 S.W. Fifth Ave.
