Investor Carl Icahn has raised his stake in Wilsonville’s Mentor Graphics Corp. to almost 15%, the level that would trigger the company’s poison pill shareholder rights plan designed to block a hostile takeover.

According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Icahn exercised options Tuesday to purchase 8.2 million Mentor shares at $5.65 per share, bringing his total holdings to 16 million shares. That gives him a 14.98 percent stake in the company, just below the level that triggers the shareholder rights plan.
