Wood Village casino backers have dropped their suit against the Oregon Secretary of State demanding a recount of signatures for a proposasl to give an exemption from Oregon’s constitutional ban on casinos.

New lawyers examined Measure 75, which was approved, and determined that the companion constitutional exemption is unnecessary.

That prompted Good For Oregon to drop its suit. According to Greg Chaimov, an attorney at the Portland firm Davis, Wright, Tremaine and former chief counsel to the Oregon Legislature, language already in the constitution gives voters the authority to approve the casino.
