Plastic shoe maker Crocs issues a public apology and agrees to pay an undisclosed sum of money to Columbia Sportswear.
Crocs Inc. hired a Columbia Sportswear designer while he was still working for Oregon-based Columbia Sportswear Co.
Columbia sued Crocs, and the plastic shoe maker issued a public apology and agreed to pay an undisclosed sum of money to Columbia Sportswear.
The two companies had collided in court after Crocs secretly hired a Columbia employee to do design work while he was still working for the Oregon company and then introduced shoes that allegedly resembled Columbia products that had already been in the works.
“Crocs is pleased that we were able to resolve this dispute with Columbia,” said Daniel Hart, Crocs’ executive vice president and chief legal and administrative officer in a joint statement issued by the two companies. “Crocs respects third-party trade secrets, intellectual property and employment related obligations. We regret that Crocs retained a Columbia footwear designer to provide footwear design services to Crocs while he was also employed by Columbia.”
