Portland bans employee travel to Mississippi


Portland City Council voted Wednesday to ban travel by public employees to Mississippi due to the state’s recently enacted discriminatory law.

Last year, the City Council prohibited travel to Indiana. Last month, the City Council blocked trips to North Carolina.

Now, city officials won’t be allowed to travel to Mississippi, where a new law allows business groups to refuse service to gay or lesbian couples based on religious beliefs.
