Under Armour expands footprint for Portland headquarters

The sportswear company will add 40,000 square feet to the former YMCA building in Southwest Portland.

Details of the expansion come in an announcement from commercial real estate investment banking firm George Smith Partners, which has secured $19.9 million in bridge/rehab financing for the project.

In the last two years, Portland solidified its spot at the center of the sportswear industry. It's long had Nike's corporate headquarters in nearby Washington County. In recent years, Adidas announced an expansion of its North American headquarters in Portland, Under Armour committed to the Portland office and a wave of startups, education resources and professional resources emerged.

Basketball player Stephen Curry recently left Nike for Under Armour, adding as much as $14 billion to the company's value, according to the Washington Post.
