State Legislature 2016 session ends


Lawmakers closed approvals on minimum wage, renewable energy and housing affordability before the session adjourned Thursday.

For the second straight session, Democrats who hold strong majorities in both chambers flexed their political muscles to pass policies over widespread opposition from Republicans, who contend voters didn’t institute the short legislative sessions in 2010 for lawmakers to pass complex legislation.

… Senate Republicans say they were able to kill a series of Democratic-sponsored bills and stall long enough for residents to get a handle on the big policy bills that were passing. Democrats say they were able to advance their policy agenda of raising the minimum wage to help working families.
