Charlie Hales didn’t take kindly to a shot taken at him in an editorial.
And it being 2015, he expressed his dismay via Twitter.
It started with a piece titled “Santa’s Oregon gift list,” in which the paper’s editorial board wrote:
For Portland Mayor Charlie Hales: A magic carpet. The carbon released by his frenetic traveling to climate change confabs – the Vatican, Paris, who knows where next? – would fill a whole lot of pencils. Nothing says “earth friendly” like going by rug.

After the O’s editorial editor Erik Lukens account mentioned Hales while linking to the piece, the lame-duck mayor fired back.

My take: No one wins when the local leaders of the fifth estate and city government get into superficial barbs on social media.
