Nonprofits In Flux: Implications and Opportunities

The nonprofit sector envisions a just and inclusive society spurred equally by innovation and adaptation and comprised of active citizens, effective institutions, and vibrant communities. But are nonprofits actually adopting the ideas that will change lives or simply rebranding old models?

The nonprofit sector envisions a just and inclusive society spurred equally by innovation and adaptation and comprised of active citizens, effective institutions, and vibrant communities.

But are nonprofits actually adopting the ideas that will change lives or simply rebranding old models? Do we fully grasp the implications and opportunities presented by challenges to the nonprofit business model such as online networking, corporate social responsibility programs, benefit corporations, and generational shifts in leadership? Isn’t it time that nonprofits be recognized as agents of change rather than just a tax status?

On May 21st, 8:30 – 10:30, join Diana Aviv, the CEO of the national nonprofit organization Independent Sector, as she discusses the economic and social forces changing the nonprofit sector for good by examining the evolving role that nonprofits play in communities and the changing responsibilities of the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Nonprofits must embrace new means to achieve greater impact, inspire new ideas, and create a future where collaboration is the norm.

There will be an opportunity for a dialogue with Diana following her presentation.

Diana represents tens of thousands of organizations across the country to advance the common good by leading, strengthening, and mobilizing the charitable community. A frequent speaker on trends in and key issues for the sector. she has testified before Congress and has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, and MSNBC.com.

If you are unable to attend the live in-person event in Portland, please consider joining one of the video-linked meeting sites or join us on your desktop. For more information on locations and to register for the event, visit www.nonprofitoregon.org.

As the sector-wide network representing all Oregon nonprofits, NAO works across the state to strengthen and connect nonprofit leaders, organizations, and the sector as a whole. NAO accomplishes this by giving voice to the collective achievements and aspirations of nonprofits; growing organizational and leadership capacity and diversity; and facilitating knowledge exchange among nonprofits and across the nonprofit, public, and private sectors. Building on its rich history of capacity building over more than three decades, NAO ensures a future in which Oregon nonprofits are visible and valued as essential contributors to our society.
