Two Barran Liebman attorneys were recognized by the Multnomah Bar Association at their 107th Annual Meeting last week in Portland.

Andrew Schpak, a Partner of the firm, received the MBA’s Award of Merit for 2013. This award is traditionally presented to a member of the legal community who demonstrates an “enduring commitment to the MBA’s mission of promoting justice through service, education or leadership to the MBA, the legal profession and the community.” Schpak’s involvement in the MBA began not long after he first started practicing law in 2004. Over the past nine years he has served on five different committees, and chaired three. He has lent his experience and insight to several different task forces and he has served as the President of the MBA’s Young Lawyers Section Board. Currently, he serves as the MBA’s Delegate to the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates. Schpak’s continued and dedicated service to the MBA, sustained while maintaining a very active legal practice, and honoring other community commitments, earned him this year’s MBA Award of Merit.

The Annual Meeting also marked the official start of Traci Ray’s tenure as President of the MBA’s Young Lawyers Section. Ray, Barran Liebman’s Executive Director, has served on the Young Lawyers Section Board for the past two years, has chaired the YLS’s Professional Development and Education Committee, and has served on the MBA’s Pro Bono Committee. While she is President, she will continue to vote as the MBA YLS Delegate to the American Bar Association. Ray looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that her new position will offer. “I am excited to serve the as the MBA YLS President and I welcome the upcoming year,” she says. “I look forward to developing new projects that will benefit our membership and community, such as Wills for Heroes, and working with the awesome board and committee chairs to enhance the practice of law for all young lawyers in Portland.” Ray’s tenure as President will run for one year.
