Shipping improved at the Port of Portland, which moved 13.1 million short tons in 2010, a million less than 2008 but 27.6% more than 2009. Grain tonnage rose 10.9% to the highest level since 1996. Breakbulk and mineral tonnage grew 145.8% and 68.0%, respectively, and 10.3% more containers were unloaded. Exported containers fell 1.0%, but year-to-date through May 2011, traffic has grown 7.7% and exported containers increased 19.2% over last year.
