OREGON BUSINESS has been named one of the top three business-to-business magazines in the country, under 80,000 circulation, by the American Society of Business Publication Editors, in one of the largest business publication competitions in the U.S.

“Everything a regional publication should be,” the judges said in making the award.

The magazine received one of two honorable mentions awarded in the 2009 Magazine of the Year competition in the small category. The Scientist took the first place honor in the small category and Fortune Small Business took first in the large category in the 31st Annual Azbee Awards of Excellence.

The award was judged on an extensive evaluation of the quality of Oregon Business  magazine’s writing, reporting and editing, usefulness to the reader, organization and design. “A solid, consistent regional package,” the judges said. “Compelling headlines, smart graphics. Local coverage without boosterism and in the context of national economic concerns. The writing was good, with good, interesting story selections.”

The magazine also won a silver award for best front cover (July 2008) in the Azbee Western region awards. In addition, Oregon Business this year won 11 awards for excellence in journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists, including three first place honors for reporting, photography and design.
