The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation are gearing up to move into a nearly finished 90,000-square-foot government building.

The tribal government’s new office space is a drastic change from the old facilities, some of were modular office buildings.

Those new offices shine like a beacon across the plains as one drives to the Umatilla Indian Reservation. The new building is officially called the Nixyaawii Governance Center.

“That is the heart of tribal government,” said former Board of Trustees chairman Antone Minthorn. “People will be able to see it and know it’s theirs.”
