Eugene supports taxes for jobs

A poll finds that a slim majority of Eugene voters support using tax dollars to create jobs.

Slightly more than half of Eugene voters would support using tax dollars to subsidize job-creating projects downtown.

Of the 400 likely voters polled last month by pollster Gary Manross’ firm, 53 percent said they support using tax dollars to subsidize economic development that would help private businesses revitalize downtown.

“Your electorate likes the idea of public-private partnerships (to) create jobs and make downtown even more desirable,” said Manross, chief executive of Strategy Research Institute in Fullerton, Calif.
