Coastal flights take off slowly


Astoria flights are still down, but Newport service is doing well despite fewer flights.

SeaPort Airlines service between Portland and the Coast is slowly rising, with ticket sales doubling between April and August.

But Astoria flights are attracting fewer passengers and generating less income than Newport flights, and the service as a whole is far from paying for itself.

So far, SeaPort’s coastal flights have generated $213,000 in revenue, while the Port of Astoria and the City of Newport have spent more than $1 million in grant money to prop up the airline’s income.
