Oregonians hit the road


Many Oregonians will travel by car this Labor Day holiday due to lower gas prices.

Labor Day travel this year will be down, but more Oregonians will be hitting the road with gas prices about a dollar cheaper than last year.

The average price for gas in Portland heading into the holiday weekend was about $2.77, according to GasBuddy.com, a gas-price watching website.

AAA projects that 39.1 million travelers will take trips of 50 miles or more away from home this weekend, a 13 percent decrease from last year’s Labor Day, when travel was the highest in a decade.
