Unemployment eases slightly

Unemployment rates throughout Oregon’s urban areas show some improvement.

Greater Portland gained 300 jobs following a 6,600-job fall in June, but the improvement isn’t expected to last.

Amy Vander Vliet, an Oregon Employment Department regional economist, does say the months of free-fall appear over, consistent with other signs of the recession easing.

“I don’t think we’ll see the roller coaster we’ve been on for the last eight months,” Vander Vliet said. “I still expect we’ll have at least a few months of job losses.”
