From Tualatin to Tinseltown

“The Tonight Show” is among the recent clients for an expanding Tualatin company.

Tualatin-based Cascade Coil Drapery Inc. makes a metal “fabric” that has been used for both decoration and safety measures, and is now used prominently on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.”

The metal wire, which looks similar to the netting of a fireplace screen, is woven by hand and custom-made machinery. It ranges from stainless steel to copper and can be sprayed any color with a magnetic, metal-based paint.

President Ron Schoenheit says the strength of the 34-person company has been its willingness to adapt, the same spirit in which it was founded. Cascade Coil is an offshoot of Pacific Fence and Wire, the company founded by Schoenheit’s grandfather in 1922.
