“I encourage you to think about who’s driving that scary big SUV next to you. Ever try to get five kids to soccer practice in a Mini Cooper or Vespa?”
I agree with your point about conserving energy [FROM THE EDITORr, June]. It’s so important to care for our earth and all of the people in it. I fall short of hoping gas reaches $6 per gallon. I encourage you to think about who’s driving that scary big SUV next to you. I’ve experienced the wrath of several well-meaning people who are critical of my SUV. I’m the mother of five children. Ever try to get five kids to soccer practice in a Mini Cooper or Vespa? Doesn’t work.
I understand that to many people five kids is way too many. That’s their choice and their opinion. I respect that. I expect others to respect my rights to choose how large my family is, including my right to transport them. I expect to be able to do that without dealing with ugly comments, spray paint on my SUV, or dealerships being burned. Families are clearly the most economically oppressed group in our current culture. The attitude you’re portraying may be encouraging family oppression in transportation choices. Please be tolerant of us. Mothers have rights, too.
