A paper mill in Longview, Wash. rehires 25 workers to help with rising sales.

Improving sales mean a Longview paper mill is rehiring a fraction of the hundreds of workers it laid off during hard times. The mill plans to hire again before the year is out.

After cutting its work force by 40 percent over the past two years, Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging Co. has hired about 25 workers because of improving sales.

The mill currently employs about 1,020 people. That’s up from about 1,000 employees at the beginning of the year. The company employed about 1,700 in 2007, when it was bought by Toronto-based Brookfield Management Associates.
