Sustainability becomes a focus for Klamath County industry and agriculture.
Klamath County is honing what anticipates will be its defining characteristics: sustainability and adaptability.
The county is honing what it says will be its economic strengths when the region emerges from the recession: increased development of renewable geothermal energy, medical technology training at Oregon Institute of Technology and the local community college, adaptable agriculture and a timber industry that is seeking a niche with green lumber, plywood and finished wood products.
“We’re branding ourselves as ‘Sustainable Klamath,'” says Trey Senn, director of the Klamath County Economic Development Association. “I think five years ago if you would have said ‘sustainable,’ you would have had to explain yourself.”
Not any more.
