The advisory committee looking at the Lake Oswego to Portland Transit Project has voted 16-4 to build a streetcar connecting the cities.

The streetcar option is the most expensive of three solutions the group looked at, which also included building no new transportation and building enhanced frequent bus service.

The project is a joint effort between several groups, including the cities of Portland and Lake Oswego, Portland Streetcar Inc., the Federal Transit Administration, TriMet and Metro.

“It’s an important first step in the public involvement process and it does pave the way,” [Metro spokeswoman Karen] Kane said of the recommendation.
