Fisherman’s Marine & Outdoor plans to open a third store in April near Washington Square in Tigard.

The North Portland-based outdoors chain will include expanded apparel, footwear and camping offerings added since the demise of Joe’s Sports & Outdoor.

The addition — and possibly two more Fisherman’s stores in the future — brings more local options to local outdoor enthusiasts as several big-name national players come to town.

Vermont-based Orvis, which carries fly fishing and hunting gear and sports apparel, opened a 6,500-square-foot store at Bridgeport Village in early November. It was the 150-year-old retailer’s second location in Oregon; the first opened in Bend’s Old Mill District in 2008. It has nearly 50 U.S. stores.

Cabela’s, an outdoors retailer that began as a catalog company and remains the country’s largest, announced in late November that it also would open a second store in Oregon. The Sidney, Neb.-based company plans a 125,000-square-foot store in The Rivers development scheduled to open in 2013 in Oregon City.
