Portland International Airport is testing an in-line baggage screening system for passenger luggage, one less hassle for travelers.

When the new system begins regular service, travelers will simply check in their bags at airline ticket counters – just like the old days – rather than toting bags from ticket counters to security screening machines across the ticket lobby.

Airline staff at ticket counters will place the bags on belts that will deliver the bags to security screening equipment in the basement of the airport, and then on to aircraft loading.
