The EV project that plans to build 1,100 electric car charging stations throughout Oregon will allocate about 100 to the Eugene-Springfield area.
The stations will be installed at 400 to 500 locations around Portland, Eugene-Springfield, Salem-Keizer and Corvallis-Albany, along the I-5 corridor in the Willamette Valley.
Charging stations are being allocated based on population, but project organizers are also looking at the number of people in each area that have reserved the Nissan Leaf electric cars that will be coming into the state in late December or early January, said David Mayfield, the Portland-based EV Project manager.
“Corvallis is getting a little bit of a boost because they have a very high rate of adoption,” he said. Corvallis area residents have reserved 45 Leafs so far; Eugene-Springfield residents, only about 40, Mayfield said, so Corvallis is likely to get more stations per capita.
