Local video stores falter


DJ’s Video has been an Ashland favorite for 26 years, but now must move to a smaller location because it can’t compete with Netflix.

For 26 years DJ’s Video has provided Ashland film buffs with a location to find cult favorites or little-known foreign films.

Now, with competition from alternative rental companies like Netflix and Red Box, the video store is moving to a location half of its current size.

“Netflix has taken a big piece of the pie,” [owner and manager Andi] Black said.

In order to compete, DJ’s offers $1.99 rentals for nearly 300 titles. “With the economy down we hope to help people get their entertainment,” Black said.
