PSU’s foundation backs payroll tax plan; chamber disapproves


Portland State University’s foundation donated $100,000 to the Local College Affordability Measure’s campaign committee, and chamber of commerce members are disappointed.

The $100,000 contribution comes as campaign organizersface court challenges, including one by Portland Business Alliance CEO Sandra McDonough regarding the payroll tax’s legality. She has a court hearing next week on that issue.

McDonough said a number of the PBA’s members support the PSU foundation as well. “We’re disappointed that PSU is using money from the foundation to support this political campaign,” she said.

McDonough told Willamette Week that some PBA membersmay stop donating to the foundation.
