Kim Keehner bought a Milwaukie confectioner fifteen years ago, and her dedication to turn the once no-frills popcorn shop into a boutique candy retailer has paid off.

Keehner’s shop, Enchanté, was mentioned in USA Today on a list of the nation’s top candy shops.

[Kaie] Wellman, author of eat.shop guides, which got their start in Portland, gave a tour of the city at a recent Society of Travel Writers Conference. There, she was introduced to a reporter from USA Today who was compiling a candy store top ten list, in commemoration of June’s national candy month. After consulting with Wellman, 7 out of the 10 featured candy shops for the paper’s “10 great places to savor the sweet life” were culled from eat.shop guides. Notable among the ranks: Milwaukie’s Enchanté, which changed its name last year from Milwaukie Popcorn and Candyland.

“I traditionally only feature businesses that are in the urban core of a city,” Wellman said. “[Enchanté] was the essence of the type of place I feature in the eat.shop guides: establishments I would happily drive across town in rush hour traffic to get to.”
