Tax measures drive out business


More than two dozen Oregon companies intend to leave the state following the passing of the tax measures.

The passing of Measures 66 and 67 is already having an effect on local businesses. More than two dozen companies have notified the state of their intent to leave.

Among them is Medford-based ComNet Marketing Group, which works to attract Northern California businesses to Oregon and also employs 150 people in Medford and Ashland.

Rep. Sal Esquivel, R-Medford, read a letter from ComNet President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Hough during Tuesday’s House session in Salem, noting the loss of such businesses would be detrimental to the state at a time when revenue continues to decline.

“With the implementation of these taxes, we are going to see people gradually leaving Oregon,” Esquivel said Wednesday.
