A few more jobs, but not enough

Oregon saw an increase of 2,900 jobs in December, but it does little to dent unemployment, which holds steady at 11%.

While work-starved Oregonians enjoyed an increase of 2,900 jobs in December, unemployment remains high at 11%.

But while the job increase made little impact, it’s the biggest rise since July 2008.

“We’re coming to a bottom in a deep cyclical trench that has been dug for us,” said Tim Duy, a University of Oregon economist.

The December report caps a dismal decade that saw virtually no new jobs added in the state.
