Despite a slight rebound in 2004-05, the number of help-wanted ads in the state’s largest newspaper, The Oregonian, nose-dived 86% in the last 10 years, and 57% in the last year alone. Ads in Bend’s The Bulletin dropped even more last year: 63%. Part of the blame lies with the ongoing flight to online job sites, but per The Conference Board, after a 2007 peak, online ads also plummeted: 25% in Oregon and 33% in the Portland metro area.
